Taking photos of soloists during a concert is a hit and miss affair when you don't know when the soloist is going to perform.

Let's take the concert in Gloucester Cathedral last weekend as an example.

Dame Sarah Connolly was singing' who I have never photographed previously at the end of the first half but I didn't know when exactly so instead of having my 400mm lens with me I left it behind while getting some wide shots of the choir.

So I only had the 70-210mm lens with me. I had the 400mm lens when Liam Bonthrone performed.

See the difference between the 400mm on the left and the 70-210mm on the right. Next time TAKE ALL THE LENSES ALL THE TIME !!
